Volunteer Florida is pleased to announce the availability of funding to support the 6 Days 6 Ramps Community Service ProjectDEADLINE FOR REQUESTS MARCH 25 AT 5:00PM EST 6 Days 6 Ramps began as a joint project between Volunteer Florida and AmeriCorps Florida State Parks. Originally known as the St. Andrews Inclusion Project, 6 Days 6 Ramps evolved from a single event community service project to a yearly six-day, multi-site community strengthening event. The Goals of the 6 Days 6 Ramps Community Service Project are:
Local non-profits, volunteer centers, AmeriCorps*State and National Direct programs and business in and around the: Jacksonville, Pensacola, Gainesville, Tallahassee, Ft. Lauderdale, and Orlando areas are encouraged to partner with local businesses to build wheelchair ramps for persons whose disability necessitates the need for a ramp, have low incomes and meet federal poverty guidelines (http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/08poverty.shtml). Projects need to take place on May 8-10 and May 15-17, 2008, in conjunction with National AmeriCorps Week. Volunteer Florida will develop and provide marketing materials, project website, volunteer registration site, volunteer T-shirts to help promote the projects and to encourage the community to participate as volunteers. Local Albertsons Supermarkets will provide support by donating food and beverages for volunteers and will conduct a local fund-raising drive through the sale of 6 Days 6 Ramps medallions at store cash registers.
